The documentary “BlaxploItalian: 100 Years of Blackness in Italian Cinemafollows Italian-born director Fred Kuwornu on his excursion through the 100-year history of blacks in Italian cinema, beginning in the silent film era, continuing with films made during the Fascist regime, and on through the neorealist period and the issue of misrepresentation in the present day, where the tendency is to offer stereotypical roles to black and Asian actors.

“This is a documentary for social change,” Kuwornu says, “and with the hashtag #DiversityinMediaMatters we plan to create events and initiatives around the world.”

A screening is Monday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in Seelye 106, Smith College. Free. A Q&A with Kuwornu follows.
