AMHERST – Hundreds of Amherst Regional High School Students walked out of school shortly after noon today and marched to the Town Common in a post-presidential election protest.

One organizer told a Gazette reporter that the demonstration is not a protest of president-elect Donald Trump, but rather a show of solidarity for marginalized groups.

Police stopped traffic downtown as a long trail of students made their way to the Town Common chanting “Who got the power, we got the power.” One bystander could be heard shouting Trump’s name back at the group as students neared the center of town.

The Gazette will update this story later.
