EASTHAMPTON – Easthampton Police are investigating a report of a man who approached an elementary school student and told the child to get into his vehicle Monday morning.

Easthampton Police Officer Alan Schadel described the incident, which took place 7:45 a.m. on School Street, as an isolated event.

The suspect vehicle is described as a white or light gray mini-van, possibly a Honda. The driver of the mini-van was described as a thin white male in his 30s with no facial hair wearing a light gray T-shirt, black shorts with belt and blue-framed eyeglasses.

Schadel, who also serves as a school resource officer, said it was a good time for parents to have a conversation with their children about safety.following such an incident.

He also encouraged parents to alert police if they see suspicious activity.

“We’d rather have a hundred reports of nothing rather than miss that one report of something,” Schadel said.

An automated call went out to parents from the school following the event.
