Ivan Chukarov and Austin Plevy scored first-period goals for the UMass men’s hockey team, but four unanswered goals by New Hampshire led to a 6-2 loss on the road Friday for the Minutemen.
The Wildcats (5-5-2, 3-1-1 Hockey East) scored three goals in the second period.
UMass goalie Nic Renyard, made 11 saves in two periods before being replaced by Alex Wakaluk (four saves) for the third period.
The Minutemen (3-6-1, 1-4-1 Hockey East) had 37 shots to New Hampshire’s 21, but Danny Tirone made 35 saves for the Wildcats.
Amherst College 1, Hamilton 1 — Patrick Daly scored a power-play goal and Connor Girard made 35 saves but Amherst (0-0-1) settled for a tie on the road in its season opener.
Chris Roll and Greg Krisberg assisted on Daly’s goal.
Connecticut College 1, Amherst 0 — Sabrina Dobbins made 26 saves for Amherst (0-1) in its season opening home loss.
Amherst 83, Green Mountain 41 — Mike Riopel scored 13 points with six assists for Amherst (1-0) at home. David George chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Amherst will take on St. Lawrence University (2-0) in the Ken Wright Memorial Tournament championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.
