A buzzer-beater and a blowout rounded out the weekend for the UMass women’s basketball team at the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa.
The Minutewomen lost to the host, Iowa, 71-30 on Saturday but beat Montana 59-58 on Sunday.
Hailey Leidel beat the buzzer with a 3 to lift the Minutewomen over the Grizzlies. She scored 18 points and had eight rebounds, while Maggie Mulligan scored 24 and grabbed 15 rebounds. Mulligan led UMass (2-2) with 11 points in a loss to the Hawkeyes on Saturday.
Smith 81, Daniel Webster 21; Smith 56, Colby-Sawyer 36— Kennedy Guest-Pritchard and Tavorsia Talley each scored 14 points to lead four Pioneers in double figures in a home win Saturday.
On Sunday, Guest-Pritchett scored 20 with seven rebounds in a win over Colby-Sawyer.
Jade Chihara had 12, and Paige Marquez scored 11 to go with six assists for Smith (2-0).
Mount Holyoke 64, Albany College 60 — Kathryn Violette scored 20 points, and Zajaah Williams-Flores added 15, and the Lyons (2-1) won their second consecutive game Saturday.
Amherst 94, Albertus Magnus 38; Amherst 67, Babson 62 — Ali Doswell made 9-of-10 field goals to score 27 points in a home win Saturday.
Hanna Hackley dished out 10 assists, and Meredith Doswell grabbed eight rebounds for No. 2 Amherst (2-0).
On Sunday, Jaimie Renner scored 17 in a win over the Beavers.
Connecticut College 3, Amherst 1 — Jocelyn Hunyadi scored on the power play in a home loss Saturday.
Emma Griese and Caitlyn Ryan had assists, while Sabrina Dobbins made 23 saves for Amherst (0-2).
UMass at Terrier Invitational, 10 a.m.
Amherst 151, Colby 115 — Sophomore Josh Chen won the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, and Craig Smith finished first in the 100 and 200 backstroke in a home win Saturday.
Both also contributed to a winning medley relay, and Amherst (1-0) won 10 events.
UMass at Terrier Invitational, 10 a.m.
Wellesley 199, Mount Holyoke 88 — Samantha Nemivant won the 1- and 3-meter diving events in a road loss Saturday.
Amherst 172, Colby 103 — Ingrid Shu won the 100 and 200 breaststroke in her collegiate debut, and Amherst won 12 events Saturday in a win.
Jackie Palermo took first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events for Amherst (1-0).
IC4A Championships — Erik Engstrom took 47th in the 8-kilometer race Saturday in 27 minutes, 12 seconds. The Minutemen finished 11th as a team.
NCAA Division III Championship — Mohamed Hussein led Amherst with a 68th-place finish in 25:15, and the team took 12th Saturday.
NCAA Division III Championship — Amherst’s Katherine Treanor finished 27th in 21:13.5 as an individual qualifier Saturday.
