SHUTESBURY – A Gardner man sustained minor injuries when the car he was driving hit a moose late Tuesday night.
Massachusetts State Police responded to a report of a car hitting a moose around 11:35 p.m. on Route 202 South in Shutesbury.
Police said the 24-year-old driver of the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze sustained minor injuries in the crash. It was unclear if the man, whose name was not released, was treated at the scene for his injuries or if he was transported to a nearby hospital.
It is not known how much damage was caused to the car but it was towed from the scene.
Massachusetts State Police Sgt. Tom Ryan did not know what happened to the moose.
“Animals create a unique situation in that they end up in the roadway in the most unexpected ways,” Ryan said. “(It’s) a reminder that, especially in rural areas, drivers needs to be particularly mindful and vigilant to that particular hazard.”
