HADLEY – A tip from a shopper helped stop the theft of $15,000 in electronics from Target in the Hampshire Mall early Friday morning, according to police.
Hadley Police Sgt. Mitchell Kuc said a customer notified an officer patrolling the store about something they overheard around 1:45 a.m.
Additional officers were called and police were able to prevent the theft, Kuc said.
Carts with an estimated $15,000 worth of electronics had been placed around the store by individuals involved with the retail theft ring, according to Kuc.
Kuc said the 10 to 12 suspects were known to the store’s loss prevention department.
No arrests were made. “At this point, it was not a completed larceny,” Kuc said.
An officer on patrol at nearby Wal-Mart was notified of the incident. Kuc said the store also informed the Target in Holyoke.
