AMHERST — Police are investigating vandalism at the Boltwood parking garage over the weekend, including graffiti placed on the walls of the lower level.

Officers were called to the 51 Boltwood Walk location at 8:47 p.m. Friday, where several people were found loitering and admitted they had been consuming alcohol, smoking marijuana and urinating, according to dispatch logs supplied by the Amherst Police Department.

During the investigation, police also discovered a magic marker that may have been used to write on the walls, as well as trash and excrement near parked vehicles.

The Department of Public Works was notified to clean up the mess.

Detective Jamie Reardon said no charges were filed as a result of the incident, but the people hanging out there were sent on their way.

The lower level has long been a popular place for people to loiter, including homeless individuals who have used it as a place to sleep.

The town’s facilities department recently installed metal fences in the stairwells to prevent people from camping out.
