NORTHAMPTON – A new documentary to be screened at Smith College explores how close we have been to nuclear disaster in the United States.

“Command and Control,” a documentary currently out in theaters, is based on a book of the same name by Eric Schlosser, who also wrote “Fast Food Nation.”

In the documentary, a nightmare plays out at the Titan II missile complex in Arkansas in September 1980. A worker accidentally drops a socket, puncturing the fuel tank of a missile carrying a powerful nuclear warhead.

The film will be screened at the Helen Hills Hills Chapel at 123 Elm St. at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29. The screening is free and open to the public.
