AMHERST — Police are investigating an incident in which a high school student reported that a man driving a pickup repeatedly asked him to get inside it while he was waiting for a late bus on South East Street Monday afternoon.
The report was made to police at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, almost two days after the 3 p.m. incident near the alternative high school campus in South Amherst at 1001 South East St.
According to the student, the pickup pulled up to him and the driver, identified as a heavy-set white man with white hair and a white goatee, suggested he get into the vehicle. The boy refused and the man, after persisting with his request, eventually drove off. The boy notified his parents and school staff Tuesday.
Detective Marcus Humber said the matter is under investigation, though he added that there have been no similar reports of students being approached by strangers recently.
