The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.
Two cackling geese and a little gull were found in Turners Falls.
Two cackling geese, a red-headed woodpecker and an orange-crowned warbler were seen in Northampton.
Two Bonaparteโs gulls were found at Pontoosuc Lake, and a red-necked grebe was seen in Ludlow.
A long-tailed duck, a golden eagle and a Bonaparteโs gull were reported at the southern end of the Quabbin Reservoir.
Golden eagles were also seen in Sheffield and Granville.
A brant continues to be seen at the campus pond at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and in the nearby fields in Hadley. A red-headed woodpecker continues to be reported in Belchertown.
Other uncommon, lingering or arriving waterfowl included: American wigeon, green-winged teal, lesser scaup, greater scaup, bufflehead, common goldeneye, hooded merganser, common loon, horned grebe, pied-billed grebe, double-crested cormorant and American coot,
Also seen were black vulture, northern harrier, peregrine falcon, merlin, American kestrel, horned lark, American pipit, snow bunting, red-breasted nuthatch, winter wren, hermit thrush, blackpoll warbler, common yellowthroat, fox sparrow, chipping sparrow, grackle, red-winged blackbird, rusty blackbird, pine siskin, evening grosbeak and pine grosbeak.
