Leah McDerment dished out 14 assists, the second most in program history and a career high, as the UMass women’s basketball team beat Bryant 68-62 at home Saturday.

The Minutewomen (4-5) were tied at 50 to start the fourth quarter but scored 16 straight points to open the final frame and seal the victory.

Hailey Leidel scored 23 points and made all five 3-pointers while grabbing eight rebounds.

Ryan Holder scored 16 points, and Alyx Stiff had 11.

The Minutewomen shot 58.3 percent from the 3-point line.

St. Joseph 63, Mount Holyoke 28 — Xajaah Williams-Flores had eight points and 12 rebounds, but the Lyons fell to 2-7 on Saturday.

Smith 111, Westfield State 103 (OT) — Mandy Castro led three Pioneers with at least 20 points, scoring 25 in an overtime road win Saturday.

Kennedy Guest-Pritchard had 24 points and 22 rebounds, while Erin Hanley scored 23 for Smith (5-3).

Hampshire Regional graduate Chelsea Moussette started for Westfield State and scored one point with three assists.

Northampton’s Susan Bell played four minutes for the Owls but didn’t score.

Men’s basketball

Amherst 92, Lasell 68 — Jayde Dawson scored a career-high 34 points to keep the No. 1 team in the country unbeaten Saturday.

David George 10 points and 13 rebounds for Amherst (8-0).

Amherst outrebounded the Lasers 53-44 and outscored them 36-24 in the paint.

Smith Academy graduate Derek McMahon scored 15 points and had three rebounds for Lasell.

Men’s ice hockey

Amherst 4, Middlebury 1 — Patrick Daly scored two goals, and David White had two assists in a road win Saturday.

Phil Johansoon and Joey Lupo also found the net for Amherst (4-3-1, 1-3-1 NESCAC), while Connor Girard made 28 saves.

Women’s ice hockey

Amherst 3, Salve Regina 0 — Sara Culhane, Alex Toupal and Breanna Sullivan found the net for Amherst on Saturday.

Toupal, Camille Herzong, Katie Savage and Eliza Laycock had assists for Amherst (3-3-1), while Bailey Plaman made 14 saves for the shutout.

Williston Northampton graduates Amanda Cronin and Meredith Peppes each had a shot for Salve Regina.
