Easthampton stole Smith Vocational’s chance at a road girls basketball win Friday night.

The Vikings trailed by two and had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead, but they turned it over and Easthampton won 35-33 at home.

Karina Volpe and Lily Pioli each scored 10 points to lead the Eagles.

Juli Korza added six points for the Eagles (2-0).

Stephanie Start led Smith Vocational (0-2) with 18 points and 14 rebounds, hitting eight free throws.

Sydney Cyr (10 boards) also made eight free throw and hit a 3-pointer to score 11 points for the Vikings.

South Hadley 61, Auburn 48 — Sophie Gatzounas led the Tigers to a win at the Hoosac Valley tournament with 32 points and 10 rebounds.

Marley Medina led the Tigers (2-0) with 12 rebounds and chipped in six points. Mikhaila Edge added seven points.

South Hadley will face host Hoosac Valley on Saturday.

Smith Academy 29, Gateway Regional 6 — The Falcons (2-0) used balanced scoring and stifling defense to drop the Gators (0-2) in Hatfield.

Emma Kelly and Mary Whalen (seven rebounds) each had eight points for Smith. Of the team’s 43 rebounds, Hannah Rickert pulled down 11 and Victoria Smiarowski had 10.

Maggie Hession and Karlie Guimond each had six steals.

Gabby Goralczyk led Gateway with three points.

Belchertown 77, Westfield 46 — Kayla Henry scored 33 points with five steals, four rebounds and three assists to lead the Orioles to a home win.

Samantha Birks added seven points and 13 rebounds for Belchertown (4-0).

“She’s a rebounding machine,” Belchertown coach Jay Woodcock siad.

Kara McKenzie added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Madison Duffy hit four 3-pointers for 12 points.

Frontier Regional 57, Mohawk 32 — Marie Diemand scored 16 points and added four assists and three steals in a season-opening road win.

Lisa Portier had 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds to go along with three seals. Lexa Boyden led the Red Hawks (1-0) with nine rebounds and scored four points.

Hopkins Academy 51, Turners Falls 47 — Allison Kowal-Safron led three Golden Hawks in double figures with 16 points in a road win.

She hit a 3-pointer and two free throws in the last minute to seal the victory.

“She had a huge game for us,” Hopkins coach Fred Ciaglo said.

Samantha Jenks scored 15 with seven rebounds, and A.J. Mitchell had 13 points and 12 boards for Hopkins (4-0).

Ludlow 32, Amherst Regional 28 — Erin Klaes and Teya Nolan each scored seven points, but the Hurricanes (1-2) lost their second straight game.
