The Northampton boys basketball team pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Pope Francis, 72-53, Thursday night at AIC in Springfield.

Elijah Davis and Andy Grygorcewicz (13 rebounds, seven blocks) combined for 17 of the Blue Devils’ 26 fourth-quarter points for Hamp (3-2).

Northampton led by two entering the fourth, but Davis scored nine of his 25 points, and Grygorcewicz had eight of his 10.

Henry Doherty added 15 points in the win.

Hampden Charter 52, Smith Vocational 43 — Jayvon Cardova had 14 points and two 3-pointers, while Travis Wolf added 10 points, but the Vikings (1-4, 0-2 Tri-County) fell at home.

Pioneer Regional 59, Frontier Regional 34 — The Red Hawks had a difficult time executing their offense in a road loss to the Panthers.

Carsten Carey led Frontier (0-4, 0-2 Hampshire) with eight points.

Monson 56, Granby 36 — Zach Gorham netted 14 points for the Rams in a road loss.

Noah Bleakley added eight points for Granby (1-2).

The Rams defense couldn’t slow Monson’s Bahu Abdul-Wadud, who scored 24 points.

Amherst Regional 62, Commerce 58 — Tajahn Joyner and Meikkel Murray each made free throws down the stretch as the Hurricanes (4-1) held on in Springfield.

Murray finished with 26 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots. Meikyle Murray added 10 points and two blocks. Seth Bella-Hunter finished with 11 boards and three blocks.

Hampshire Regional 73, Belchertown 57 — Jacob Bihler scored eight of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter as the Raiders (3-2) outscored the Orioles (0-5) 20-9 in the final frame to pull away on the road.

Matt Babyak had 16 points and Nate Sawyer 12 in the win.

Mitch Medina led Belchertown with 21 points, while Nolan Wright added 12.

Hopkins 78, Smith Academy 27 — The Golden Hawks did it from the perimeter in a road win over the Falcons.

Hopkins (5-0) finished the game with 14 3-pointers with John Earle (26 points) connecting on seven of them.

Sam’i Roe scored 23 points with four 3-pointers. Justin Ciaglo added 11 points.

Jack Zigmont led Smith Academy (1-3) with nine points.

Girls basketball

Chicopee 41, Granby 34 — In the fourth quarter, the Pacers switched up defenses on nearly every possession leading to some confusion for the Rams late in a road loss.

Nora Young had her third straight double-double for Granby with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Mallory Beauregard added 10 points for the Rams (1-2)

Northampton 81, Ludlow 28 — The Blue Devils (4-0) blitzed the Lions (1-3) in the first quarter, jumping out to a 30-3 lead en route to the blowout at home.

Freshman Amanda Mieczkowski (five assists, five steals) scored a career-high 13 points, while Anna Kerwood came off the bench and struck for a career-high 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Megan McCarthy had a game-high 19 points along with 13 rebounds, while Lauraine Joensen added 14 points and 11 boards.

Hamp shot 19 for 24 from the free-throw line.

Easthampton 39 Gateway 13 — The Eagles led throughout in a convincing win over the Gators.

Juli Korza led Easthampton (3-0) with 17 points.

Karina Volpe and Emma Blomstrom both registered four steals.

Lily Pioli chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.

Becca Herman scored four points for Gateway (0-3).
