The South Hadley girls basketball team faced a stiff challenge Friday night, a trip to the Berkshires to face an unbeaten team

The Tigers accepted the challenge and returned with a 46-40 win over the Hurricanes.

The Tigers (5-0) pulled away in the second and third quarter and entered the fourth with a 12 point lead.

South Hadley had three players in double figures including Mikhaila Edge (10 points), Mia Kelly (13 points) and Sophie Gatzounas (12 points).

Pioneer Valley 50, Smith Academy 34 — The Falcons couldn’t stay with the Panthers at home.

Victoria Smiarowski had six points and six rebounds for Smith Academy (2-3).

Hannah Rickert added four points and six rebounds.

Easthampton 33, Franklin Tech 27 — Juli Korza scored 10 points, and the Eagles won on the road.

Lisa Sikop added eight points, and Karina Volpe had seven for the Eagles (5-1).

Belchertown 53, West Springfield 44 — Samantha Birks scored a career-high 10 points with 15 rebounds for a double-double in a road win.

Kayla Henry led the Orioles (6-1) with 22 points and seven steals to go along with three assists. Madi Duffy scored eight.

Hopkins Academy 57, Mohawk 19 — Samantha Jenks scored 26 points in a road win.

She added seven assists and five steals for the Golden Hawks (5-0).

Leah Picard also reached double figures with 10 points, while Allison Kowal-Safron scored seven.

Frontier 31, Amherst 25 — The Red Hawks outlasted the Hurricanes at home.

Lisa Portier had five points and 13 rebounds for Frontier (2-2). Lexa Boyden led the team with nine points to go with eight rebounds.

Ingrid Salvador scored 10 points for the Hurricanes (1-5)

Granby 43, Drury 33 — Nora Young scored 20 points with eight rebounds for the Rams in a road win.

Mallory Beauregard chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Granby (2-2)

Maddie Sexton added 11 boards with seven points.

Ice hockey

Amherst 3, South Hadley 3 — The Hurricanes and the Tigers skated to a tie in South Hadley.

Nathan Masteralexis scored twice with an assist for Amherst (1-2-1), who took a 3-1 lead into the third period.

Alex Joao, Nick Thibault and Sean Doherty scored for South Hadley (2-2-1).

Amherst’s Clayton Bowser stopped 25 shots while Jake Remillard made 28 saves for South Hadley.

Pioneer Valley 82, Smith Academy 18 — The Falcons struggled in Northfield.

Nick Leary scored seven points for Smith Academy (1-4, 0-3 Hampshire).
