I knew snow was predicted last Thursday, and got into the Gazette at nine that morning, ready to shoot weather scenes. But since the precipitation didn’t start till afternoon, I spent most the day on another assignment, in Amherst. Later, I took the back way to the Gazette, hoping to find my “snow shot.” And there it was, on Cemetery Road in Hadley: a red-tailed hawk, sitting on a fence post with the snow coming down all around it. I pulled over, hoping I could a get a shot without scaring it away. It never moved except to watch me drive by. I took many frames but liked how resigned and calm it looks in this one. What a treat to get so close to an animal we usually see only in the distance.
