Hadley has the perfect financial opportunity to start long-needed improvements to the infrastructures of our town.
The way to do this is to vote “yes” for the debt-exclusion questions on Jan. 10 from noon to 8 p.m. at Hopkins Academy.
Hadley voters were mailed a yellow sheet with the nine ballot questions and I can easily understand how the figures on the paper can be confusing. The bottom line is that because the loan the town took out to pay for the fire and public safety complex and the elementary school will be paid off soon, the cost if all 9 questions pass only will be an increase of $95 per year for the average homeowner.
I personally am excited about the ability of the town to provide an appropriate space for the more than 25 percent of our population who are seniors – a new welcoming building that is handicap-accessible and has uniform heating and cooling. It is time to give back to the Hadley seniors, who have for so long contributed to this town. Give them a new facility that they can use to continue to be healthy and functioning elder members of our community.
And the tax time is right – we will never get the chance to make this many improvements to our town at this price.
