One thing shared by both Democratic and Republican voters — we abhor corruption and demand ethical public servants. This was proved last week when a huge outpouring of opposition forced the House to abruptly reverse course on its plan to dismantle the Office of Congressional Ethics.
Today is the time to prove this again. For decades, the Senate (regardless of which party controlled it) has delved extensively into the backgrounds of presidential nominees, uncovering ethical and conflict-of-interest problems that the public has a right to see. But this week the Senate is poised to rush through hearings on presidential appointees who have not even submitted or have submitted incomplete ethics forms.
Tell the Senate you want genuine scrutiny of all nominees. Tell them to postpone the confirmation hearings until they have all the info required. Tell your own two senators, tell Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (who also works for you), and encourage everyone you know in other states to tell their senators too.
The 129 million people who voted, and the 90 million who didn’t, have all the power we need to stop this debacle.
