The Northampton boys indoor track & field team placed third overall at the MSTCA Division 4 State Relays, Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

The Blue Devils finished with 32 points behind only Burlington (50) and Wakefield (37).

Leading the way were Patrick Quinlan, Cole Lavalle, Ben Gordon-Sniffen and Nik Smith with a first-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay in 3 minutes, 28.24 seconds.

Christian Hodgson, Jasiah Tudryn and Smith combined to jump 56 feet, 6 inches to finished second in the long jump.

Gordon-Sniffen (800 meters), Hodgson (200), Henry Higgins (200) and Ethan Salem (400) placed second in the 1,600 spring medley.

Quinlan, Lavalle, Tudryn and Smith finished third in the 4×200 (1:35.21).

The top-six relays earned points.

The Northampton girls placed 18th with three points.

The Blue Devilsโ€™ 4×800 relay (10:10.14) was fifth and the distance medley team was sixth (13:21.04).

In Division 3 Saturday, the Amherst boys finished seventh with 18 points.

The Hurricanes were first in the 4×800 relay (8:06.19) and second in the 4×400 (3:28.50).

The Amherst girls were 15th with four points.

Amherst was fourth (13:17.86) in the girls distance medley relay.

Girls basketball

Smith Academy 30, Pioneer Christian 34 โ€” Liv Cavanaugh had 10 points and Mary Whalen added eight as the Falcons (4-5) advanced to the championship of the Falcon Holiday Classic, Saturday in Hatfield.

Smith will play Putnam, a 45-27 winner over Commerce, in Mondayโ€™s championship at 5:45 p.m.

Boys basketball

Wahconah 52, Frontier 44 โ€” Miles Freeman had 15 points and Carsten Carey added 14, but the Red Hawks (2-7) fell on the road Saturday.

Ice hockey

Amherst 8, Turners Falls 0 โ€” Nathan Masteralexis exploded for five goals and one assist as the Hurricanes (6-2-1) won on the road Saturday.

Jake Balderston (two assists), Max Hopley (assist) and Brandon Feldman (three assists) each scored once. Niccolo Cardaropoli, Gio Rivera and Matthew Longto each had one assist. Clayton Bowser made 12 saves for the shutout.

Easthampton 2, Chicopee Comp 2 โ€” Garren Fugiel and Matt Grimaldi each scored, while Dillan Wilson had two assists and Jake Batchelder one for the Eagles Saturday.

Nate Barnes made 19 saves for Easthampton at Lossone Rink.

Boys nordic skiing

Willy Wright placed second overall in 12 minutes, 14 seconds as Amherst Regional was third in the third Berkshire League race of the season, a 4-kilometer freestyle race at Mohawk Trail on Saturday.

Amherst had 63 points behind Mount Greylock (22) and Northfield Mount Hermon (37).

Luke Sedor Protti was ninth in 13:13 for Amherst. Ethan Saxenian (14:51) was 20th and Nor Young (16:19) 32nd for the Hurricanes.

Girls nordic skiing

Amherst Regional was sixth with 102 points at the third Berkshire League race of the season, a 4-kilometer freestyle race at Mohawk Trail on Saturday.

Mount Greylock won with 16.

Kendal Pittman (22nd, 17:09), Piper Lacy (25th, 17:12), Maya Spalding-Fecher (27th, 17:42) and Katherine King (28th, 17:44) were Amherstโ€™s top four.
