AMHERST — An Amherst man was arrested early Tuesday morning in a downtown apartment after a resident reported returning home to find an intruder, according to police.
Jose Guillermo Sanchez, 50, of 266 East Hadley Road, Apartment 38, was taken into custody at 12:07 a.m. at Ann Whalen Apartments, 33 Kellogg Ave., on a charge of breaking and entering during the nighttime to commit a felony, said Lt. Gabriel Ting.
At 11:59 p.m. Monday, police were called by the tenant, who had returned home to discover a man standing in his living room and rummaging through items, apparently gaining entrance through an unlocked sliding door, Ting said.
