BELCHERTOWN – Police are investigating an incident in which a car was stolen in front of a Park Street business Tuesday morning and later recovered.
Officers were approached by a Park Street business owner around 9:55 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a stolen vehicle.
Police said a woman had parked her white Saturn in front of the store and went inside leaving her keys in the vehicle. A man was then seen getting into the woman’s car and driving off.
The man is described as a white male who wearing a dark colored pea coat jacket that went past his waist, a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap. He had a mustache and possibility a beard or hair on his chin, according to police.
Video showed the car traveling north on Park Street towards the fire station. The car was located a short time later on East Walnut Street, near the intersection of Jabish Street, parked and still running with driver’s front window down, police said.
An officer with Apache, a police canine, was deployed to track the suspect’s scent.
The case remains under investigation.
