NORTHAMPTON — A Florence man appeared in court Monday after he was accused of driving the wrong way on Route 91 north while driving drunk, authorities said.
Jonathan Soto, 25, pleaded not guilty in Northampton District Court to driving the wrong way on a state highway, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and operating under the influence of alcohol.
Police said Soto informed them, upon being stopped at about 11:37 p.m., that he was coming from a friend’s residence where he was drinking and watching the Patriots game.
Soto failed field-sobriety tests and was taken to the Hampshire Jail and House of Correction. He’s due back in court Feb. 24.
According to a police report of the incident, Soto told officers at the scene that he had consumed two beers.
“’Officers, I was trying to make it home. I’m not sure how I got on this side of the highway,’” he told police, according to their report.
