The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.
A boreal chickadee is coming to a feeder in the town of Peru.
The Harris’s sparrow continues to come to feeders in Dalton and the red-headed woodpecker is still being seen at Lake Wallace in Belchertown.
Glaucous, Iceland and lesser black-backed gull continue to be reported at Turners Falls.
Single greater scaups were seen in Turners Falls and the southern end of the Quabbin Reservoir. A ruddy duck was also seen at the Quabbin.
A first-year white-fronted goose, a cackling goose, a pair of pintails and two greater scaup were reported in Southwick.
An adult greater white-fronted goose, a snow goose and a cackling goose were seen on the Connecticut River in Agawam.
Several red-breasted mergansers were on Onota Lake in Pittsfield.
Other uncommon winter species seen included: wood duck, green-winged teal, ring-necked duck, common goldeneye, hooded merganser, common merganser, black vulture, bald eagle, northern harrier, red-shouldered hawk, belted kingfisher, peregrine falcon, merlin and American kestrel.
Also reported were yellow-bellied sapsucker, northern flicker, horned lark, snow bunting, red-breasted nuthatch, winter wren, Carolina wren, brown creeper, golden-crowned kinglet, eastern bluebird, cedar waxwing, fox sparrow, cowbird and pine siskin.
