NORTHAMPTON — A grand jury handed up several drug charges for a city man police said was in possession of roughly 1,500 bags of heroin and $270 worth of cocaine, which authorities recovered following an apparent drug deal downtown in December.
Harold Boyer, 47, of 491 Bridge Road, faces charges in Hampshire Superior Court of trafficking heroin, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and disorderly conduct, all charges to which he pleaded not guilty Dec. 14, 2016 in Northampton District Court. Boyer will be arraigned on the new charges in superior court in the coming weeks.
Police said that, on the evening of Dec. 13, members of the Northwestern district attorney’s anti-crime task force were watching the area of Pop’s Package Store, 20 Bridge St., when they witnessed what they later described as a hand-to-hand drug transaction involving a brown Toyota Camry. When officials approached the Camry, they noted at least one bag of heroin on the ground nearby, police said. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities said they recovered roughly 1,500 bags of heroin and about $270 worth of cocaine.
The heroin itself, police said, was worth about $8,000.
Boyer shouted expletives at the officers upon them searching his vehicle, police said.
Court records show Boyer was convicted of disorderly conduct in 1990 in Northampton District Court, making the most recent disorderly conduct charge a subsequent offense.
