Monique Bourgeois of Goshen enjoys photography, but she especially likes taking pictures of eagles. A trip to the Oxbow in Northampton during a snowstorm Tuesday rewarded her with the sighting of the bird pictured at left.

The eagle, she says, reminds her of her father, Jack Bourgeois, a wildlife enthusiast who died in 2011. โ€œThough not formally trained as an artist, he made several gorgeous pen and ink drawings of bald eagles,โ€ she wrote in an email to the Gazette. Since his death, the eagle has held a special meaning for her and her family members. So, when she is out with her camera, hiking or kayaking, she watches for eagles. The pictures she brings back, she says, โ€œhelp us all think of my Dad as having his spirit freed, help us move away from those awful memories of his illness.โ€
