Lauraine Joensen asserted herself for the Northampton girls basketball team in a 70-54 win over Holyoke on the road Thursday.
She had 30 points and 16 rebounds.
“We go through her as far as the offense,” Northampton coach Perry Messer said. “She wanted the ball today.”
Megan McCarthy added nine points and 15 rebounds, while Emma Tanner hit four 3s and scored 14 points.
Amanda Mieczkowski scored nine points and dished out seven assists for the Blue Devils (11-3, 1-1 Valley League).
Northampton led 40-25 at halftime.
Turners Falls 49, Smith Academy 26 — Eighth-grader Emma Kelly scored 12 points, but the Falcons (6-10, 1-6 Franklin South) lost at home.
South Hadley 64, Palmer 36 — Mia Kelly scored a career-high 20 points in a road win.
Sophie Gatzounas added 10 as the Tigers won their 13th straight game.
Mahar 63, Frontier Regional 38 — Helena Diaz scored 11 points, but the Red Hawks (5-8, 2-1 Franklin North) lost on the road.
Gateway 44, Hampden Charter 10 — Lilly Waters scored eight points in a road win for the Gators (5-9).
Hopkins Academy 56, Athol 46 — Samantha Jenks scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a road win.
The Golden Hawks (9-5, 2-1 Franklin North) overcame a 22-18 deficit at halftime by ratcheting up their defensive effort.
“We started pressing them full-court,” Hopkins coach Fred Ciaglo said. “They started turning the ball over and fouling”
Hopkins hit 25 of 35 free throws, 23 of 31 in the second half.
Ally Jenks had 10 points.
Smith Vocational 39, St. Mary’s 24 — Sydney Cyr led the Vikings (7-9) with 18 points in a road win.
Hampshire Regional 49, Monson 29 — The Raiders went on the road and beat the Mustangs behind 15 points from Katy O’Connor.
Katelyn Pickunka added 12 points for Hampshire (13-3, 3-1 Central).
Belchertown 63, Amherst 39 — Kayla Henry dropped 27 points to lead the Orioles (12-2, 2-1 Suburban) over the Hurricanes on the road.
Erin Klaes had 23 for Amherst (1-13, 0-3 Suburban.
Gateway Regional 40, Smith Vocational 27 — Shane Mastello had 14 points, and Brett Turban scored 13 in a road win for the Gators (3-8).
Luis Acosta added 14 for the Vikings (2-12).
