Ice Crystals
Route 9, Belchertown
Photograph and text by Georgette deFriesse, Belchertown
I saw these beautiful large ice crystals in the Jabish Brook in Belchertown in mid January while walking my dogs. They were by the near bank which is a good news/bad news situation: Good news because I could make the photo without risking an ice bath, bad news because my dogs like to get between me and the camera when they figure out where my attention is.
Fortunately, they stayed off the fragile ice with only minimal persuasion. There’s a slight prismatic effect in part of the image, made visible by a polarizing filter on my lens. I captured this image using a DSLR with a medium zoom lens.
