The South Hadley ice hockey team held off an Easthampton rally Wednesday at Lossone Rink.

The Eagles scored three goals in the third period but fell to the Tigers, 5-4.

Nick Thibault had two goals and two assists for South Hadley (8-5-1, 8-2-1 Fay-Wright). Mike Mazza and Alex Joao each had a goal and an assist.

Trevor Ouimet scored for South Hadley, while Sean Doherty and Will Ortyl added assists.

Jake Remillard made 27 saves.

Mike McColgan, CJ Tenczar and Jake Delisle each contributed a goal and an assist for Easthampton (4-10-1, 3-10-1 Fay-Wright).

Garren Fugiel also found the net, while Patrick O’Connor had an assist.

Nate Barnes made 28 saves.

South Hadley built a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Boys basketball

Gateway 51, Pioneer Christian 46 — Shane Mastello scored 23 points, and the Gators took down the second-place team in the Tri-County League.

Brett Turban added 19 for Gateway (4-9, 2-7 Tri-County).

Smith Vocational 72, Westfield Technical Academy 65 (OT) — Luis Acosta had five of his game-high 21 in overtime, as the Vikings survived a game-tying three in regulation to win in the extra period.

Dakota Blakesley had 13 for Smith (3-12, 2-09 Tri-County), while Tyler Top added 12. Drew Brida had 14 rebounds to go with his nine points.

Frontier 60, Turners Falls 52 — The Red Hawks scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.

“It was nothing more than guys making open shots,” Frontier coach Ben Barshefsky said. “We did a good job pushing the ball and finding our open teammates.”

Carsten Carey and Trevor Gilmore each had 16 points for Frontier (6-11, 4-7 Hampshire).

Myles Freeman added 12.

Mahar 81, Smith Academy 33 — Smith Academy could not keep up with Mahar’s high-powered offense, remaining winless in league play (1-13, 0-12 Hampshire).

Minnechaug 71, South Hadley 48 — Despite 20 points from Calivn Bridges and 12 by Nate Poirier, the Tigers fell on the road.

Girls basketball

Hampshire Regional 64, Wahconah 58 — The Raiders withstood a late Warrior rally in the fourth quarter and held on for a win at home.

Katy O’Conner led Hampshire (13-4) with 25 points, while Katelyn Pickunka scored 18.
