Friday’s high school basketball: Marie Diemand leads Frontier girls basketball in comeback win at Hopkins Academy

Marie Diemand had 13 points and four assists in a 47-44 win for the Frontier Regional girls basketball team over Hopkins Academy, Friday in South Deerfield.

Ella Deane hit two 3-pointers and added 12 points and five rebounds for Frontier (6-9, 3-2 Franklin North).

Samantha Jenks scored 25 points for Hopkins (10-6, 3-2 Franklin North), while Ally Jenks added 11.

The Red Hawks trailed 23-22 at halftime and outscored Hopkins 14-11 in the fourth quarter.

The victory tied the teams for second place in the league behind Mahar.

Chicopee Comp 69, Amherst Regional 20 — Erin Klaes had 10 points in a road loss for the Hurricanes (1-15, 0-5 Suburban).

Boys basketball

Amherst 65, Chicopee 54 — Meikkel Murray scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Hurricanes’ eighth straight win.

Murray is 21 points away from 1,000 in his career. Amherst next plays at West Springfield on Tuesday.

Seth Bella-Hunter chipped in 11 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks.

Tate Rietkerk added 10 for Amherst (5-10, 1-6 Valley Wheel).

Hopkins Academy 103, Athol 31 — Sam’i Roe had 32 points and 11 rebounds, while Justin Ciaglo and John Earle each had 17 points as the Golden Hawks (14-1, 11-0 Hampshire) rolled on the road.

Hopkins led 37-2 after the first quarter and 63-8 at halftime.

Caleb Graves added 12 points and Irvin Compass had 10 rebounds.

Easthampton 58, Monson 43 — Zach Crisafulli had 16 points and Ant Moynihan added 13 as the Eagles (9-7, 8-3 Bi-County) moved within a win of the qualifying for the postseason.

Easthampton has won seven of its last nine games.

Smith Vocational 51, Gateway 45 — Luis Acosta and Travis Wolf each scored 10 points in a road win for the Vikings.

Wolf also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Drew Brida led Smith Voke (4-12, 3-9 Tri-County) with 16 rebounds and added seven points.

Mike Brown scored a career-high seven.

Shane Mastello led Gateway (4-10, 2-9 Tri-County) with 22 points.

Brett Turban hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points.

Longmeadow 54, South Hadley 44 — Calvin Bridges hit two 3-pointers and scored 13 points, but the Tigers lost at home.

Matt Grochowalski added 12 points for South Hadley (7-10, 3-8 Suburban).

Northampton 65, East Longmeadow 49 — Henry Doherty led four Blue Devils in double figures with 17 points in a road win.

Elijah Davis added 15 points, while Mike McCarthy notched a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Andy Grygorcewicz added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Frontier Regional 61, Smith Academy 37 — Kyle Spencer and Trevor Gilmore each scored nine points for the Red Hawks (6-11, 6-7 Hampshire) in a road win.

Carter Woodward hit three 3s for Smith Academy (1-14, 0-13 Hampshire) and scored 13 points.

Agawam 65, Belchertown 49 — Mike Laughner had 15 points, Cyrus Raines had 14 and Nolan Wright 11 but the Orioles (0-15, 0-10 Suburban) fell on the road.
