Eight Hampshire County wrestlers are still alive for a Western Massachusetts Division 3 championship after Friday’s first day of action at Pioneer Regional.

Saturday’s semifinals will begin at 11 a.m. also at Pioneer. After the semifinals, all three podium placing matches (first, third, fifth) will be held simultaneously. The next weight class won’t start until all three bouts are finished. Those finals are expected to start around 4 p.m. but could begin earlier.

South Hadley’s Isaiah Cardenales, the defending champion, will face Granby’s Christian Perez in the semifinals at 106 pounds.

Cardenales pinned Pathfinder’s Dustin Lemoine in 1 minute, 34 seconds in the quarterfinals.

Perez pinned Sabis’ Quentin Pellegrino in 1:39 in the first round and took down Kyle Brunelle of Franklin County in 1:16 in the quarterfinals.

Granby’s Clayton Yanosky, the top seed at 182 pounds, drew Trever Mousseau of Athol in the semifinals. Yanosky pinned Mount Greylock’s Jacob Pontier in the first round (1:44) and Josh Sutton of Southwick in the quarterfinals (1:32).

Gateway’s Brandon Daniels reached the 113-pound semifinals by pinning South Hadley’s Ajani Lopez in the first round (0:16) and Dean Tech/Holyoke’s Chamwel Izquierdo in the quarterfinals (2:49). He’ll face Anthony Lupiani of Mount Everett.

Connor Pettis of Frontier Regional pinned Mount Everett’s Charles Kerzner in the first round and took down Monument’s Curt Wilton in the quarterfinals. Khalil Khasimov of Hampden Charter will face him for a spot in the final at 126 pounds.

Frontier’s Josiah Murry will face Eddie Martinez in the semifinals at 138 pounds.

Murry pinned Nathan Hogan of Hampshire in the first round (1:51) and Athol’s Joe Gray in the quarterfinals (3:33).

Miguel Olvera-Aguilera, also of Frontier, upset No. 4 Alex Misenheimer of Pathfinder in the 195-pound quarterfinals, pinning him in 4:32. He’ll face top-seeded Shamal Schoonmaker of Monument Mountian in the semifinals.

Brad Taft, Granby’s No. 3 seed at 285 pounds, will face Southwick’s Braydon Tingley in the semifinals.

Taft won a 4-3 decision over Mahar’s Branden Burke in the first round before pinning Taconic’s Isaiah Hartman-Caesar in 2:55 in the quarterfinals.

Michael Baldwin (152) of Hampshire Regional faces Isiah Williams of Taconic in the semis. Baldwin beat Jordan Bashaw 4-3 to advance.

DJ Willard, also of Hampshire, will face Franklin’s Spencer Telega in the 160-pound semifinals. Willard pinned Mohawk’s Mason Bigini in the first round (5:41) and won a 19-10 major decision over Pioneer Regional’s Alex Tyson in the quarterfinals.
