The Audubon Society has reported a variety of recent bird sightings in western Massachusetts.

Iceland and lesser black-backed gulls are still present at Turners Falls.

The red-headed woodpecker was reported again in Easthampton.

A flock of 100 snow buntings was seen in Deerfield.

A few Lapland longspurs and snow buntings have been found in a large flock of horned larks in Hadley.

A rough-legged hawk continues in the Northampton-Hadley area.

Other uncommon wintering species included: greater scaup, ring-necked duck, common and hooded merganser, common loon, Cooperโ€™s hawk, sharp-shinned hawk, peregrine falcon, and merlin.

Also reported were barred owl, yellow-bellied sapsucker, northern flicker, eastern bluebird, hermit thrush, white-crowned sparrow, swamp sparrow, fox sparrow, savannah sparrow, pine siskin and evening grosbeak.
