HOLYOKE — One person had to be extricated by the “Jaws of Life” after a head-on collision on Route 5 Tuesday night.

Holyoke Police Lt. Isaias Cruz said the crash occurred at about 10 p.m. on Route 5, also known as Northampton Street, in front of the Americas Best Value Inn.

Traffic on the thoroughfare was shut down for a little more than an hour while crews cleaned up.

Three people were taken to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Cruz said.

Cruz had no word on the cause of the collision Tuesday night.
