WESTHAMPTON – In early February, a fire ripped through the Albitz family’s home in Westhampton.

The home was lost and the family’s 3-year-old dog, Bell, died from smoke inhalation, according to Westhampton Fire Chief Chris Norris.

Now, a Westhampton woman has organized a benefit to support the family, which will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Westhampton Elementary School, 37 Kings Highway.

Fitness instructor and personal trainer Heather Paul has planned the event and will lead fitness classes to help raise money. She said all proceeds will go toward the Albitz family.

“Westhampton has a big heart,” Paul wrote on the event flyer. “Use your healthy hearts to take care of our neighbors who recently lost their home to a fire.”

For a suggested donation of $5, people of all ages can participate in an aerobics class from noon to 12:45 p.m. or yoga from 12:45-1:30 p.m.

There will also be a bake sale, as well as a raffle with prizes including gift certificates to Intervale Farm, Strawbale Cafe and Outlook Farm.

The town’s fire department will hand out flyers on fire safety at the event.
