AMHERST — Police were called by residents twice Saturday night after possibly intoxicated intruders got into their homes.

At 11:10 p.m., a Beston Street resident asked for police assistance after hearing a person enter the dwelling, said Detective Nicholas Chandler. When police got to the residence, located on a short street south of the University of Massachusetts campus, a college-age man was found sleeping or passed out in a chair.

Austin Cunningham, 22, of East Hadley Road, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering to commit a misdemeanor, Chandler said.

There were no signs of forced entry to the home.

A 9:53 p.m. Saturday, a man wearing a USA basketball jersey got into a Puffton Village residence and became belligerent when confronted by the tenant, Chandler said. When the man left the apartment at 1040 North Pleasant St., he began banging on the windows to be let back in.

The man, who didn’t take anything from the home or damage any property, eventually fled and was not located by police or private security.
