AMHERST — An Indian Orchard man was arrested early Sunday morning after using a knife to injure two people during a fight in downtown Amherst, according to Amherst Police.
John J. Nickels, 34, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. on charges of two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a charge of disorderly conduct, said Detective Nicholas Chandler.
Nickels was one of four people loitering outside the Amherst Market, 259 Triangle St., when the fight began. The combatants then moved inside the store, Chandler said, and began destroying items as the fight continued.
No information was available about the extent of the injuries to the victims. No employees at the store were injured, Chandler said.
Chandler said the incident remains under investigation as police use surveillance video to determine whether other people will face charges.
