Kudos to Hopkins Academy for requiring its students to complete a course in personal finance (“Hopkins adds finance to grad requirements,” March 10).
It’s past time that students are provided knowledge and analytical tools to enable them to better participate in the American economy. Perhaps someone might now investigate replacing geometry or trigonometry with a good statistics course?
I found interesting Principal Brian Beck’s perspective on students as potential victims of a capitalistic economy. That economy has given them iPhones, social media, and thousands of other goods. The challenge for the “victims” is making good decisions in the face of so much data.
