For the third year in a row, Amherst native Michael Hixon earned All-American status on the diving board at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist took second for Indiana in Thursday’s 1-meter springboard final and fifth in Friday’s 3-meter final in Indianapolis.

He had 437.7 points on the 1-meter board, which placed him behind fellow Olympian Steele Johnson of Purdue, who had 446.9.

Johnson also won the 3-meter with 502 points, while Hixon, a redshirt junior, finished with 455.35.

Hixon won both titles as a freshman at Texas before transferring to Indiana for his sophomore season, when he took second on the 3-meter and fifth on 1-meter.

Women’s basketball

Amherst senior guard Ali Doswell was named the 2017 Division III Honda Athlete of the Year nominee for basketball.

Doswell is one of 11 finalists for the DIII Honda Woman Athlete of the Year. This will be voted on at the end of the academic year by national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of THE Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 41st year.

Doswell, the 2017 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Player of the Year and NESCAC Player of the Year, led Amherst to its second national championship and a school record 33-0 mark. Named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four, she finished her career with a 114-10 overall record.

Baseball

George Washington 10, UMass 2 — Ryan Lever had two hits, and Nolan Kessinger and Andrew Noonan drove in runs in the Minutemen’s conference opener. UMass (4-9) has lost four in a row.

Women’s lacrosse

Smith 20, Purchase 9 — Chloe Harris scored seven goals and added an assist for the Pioneers in a road win.

Raleigh Williams found the net three times, while Caroline Myran and Northampton’s Emily Biggs each scored twice.
