NORTHAMPTON — A Huntington man was arrested Wednesday after police said he lost control of a stolen 1991 Cadillac Seville on Hatfield Street, left the roadway and hit a utility pole.

Christopher Lafond, 48, was arrested after the accident, which occured at about 10:19 a.m., and faces four charges: leaving the scene of an accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, driving with a revoked license and larceny of a motor vehicle, said Lt. Robert Powers of the Northampton Police Department.

After the accident, Northampton police tweeted that Hatfield Street from Cooke Avenue to North King Street would be closed for a “few hours.”

Singwen Mientka, the office manager at the nearby Valley Motor Sports, at 216 N. King St., said power was out for about an hour and internet came back on shortly before 5 p.m. Because of the lack of internet, the store wasn’t able to process credit card transactions or order parts all day, she said.

“We had no power for about an hour and I just now got my internet back,” she said. “It was the internet that was really the problem.”
