NORTHAMPTON — The words “eagle down” may sound like something straight out of military training, but they took on a very literal meaning for officers in the Northampton Police Department on Thursday.

Chief Jody Kasper said officers Brent Dzialo and Andrew Kohl rescued an injured bald eagle from alongside Mount Tom Road around 7:55 a.m. after a call came in “that an eagle was down.”

Officers placed the female bird in a crate and transported her to raptor rehabilitator Tom Ricardi.

“We wish this majestic bird a speedy recovery!” Kasper wrote in a Facebook post.
