NORTHAMPTON — A pedestrian was struck and injured by a motor vehicle while walking across the street in downtown Northampton early Friday afternoon, according to police.

The victim was walking across Main Street inside the crosswalk near Center Street at around 1 p.m. when an eastbound vehicle struck the person, Northampton Police Captain John Cartledge told the Gazette.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, and the driver was cited for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Cartledge said. Police declined to identify the driver or victim and that person’s injuries.

Longtime Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium employee Trina Parsons identified the victim as an employee of the store. She said she was working Friday when someone came into the story to inform her that a pedestrian had been hit.

“I just went to the door and I freaked out,” Parsons said. “I screamed.”
