NORTHAMPTON — The fashion consignment shop, 2nd Time Around, is closing its doors Monday due to what the company says is a “convergence of market forces hitting all brick and mortar stores.”

The company noted “increased competition with online retailers” and “skyrocketing rents” as reasons for closing nearly half of its stores across the country.

2nd Time Around opened its first store in 1973. The company has grown to 42 boutiques in 12 states. The Northampton location opened in 2012 on 34 Pleasant St. The company said they plan to close 18 stores.

“2 Time Around has spent four decades fostering a community of consignors and fashion lovers — making the buying and selling of pre-owned designer clothing a great experience for all involved,” spokesperson Kate Legreca said in a statement.

Unsold items must be picked up by consignors by Monday. To arrange pickup, call the store at 413-584-1575. The store asks that consignors give a 24-hour notice before pickup.

“Until items are picked up — and as long as the store remains in operation — we will continue to attempt to sell your items,” the company wrote in a letter to Northampton consignors. “And for all sales after (April 10) we will ensure that your portion of the proceeds are processed for payment.”
