In her first varsity start for the Easthampton softball team, freshman Rachel Robinson hurled a no-hitter in the Eagles’ 7-0 win over Pope Francis on Wednesday.
Robinson struck out 13 batters, allowed a walk and did not know she had a no-hitter until the end of the game.
“I just tried to stay focused,” Robinson said. “I knew I was doing well.”
Easthampton coach Homar Gomez gave Robinson the good news after the game.
“I was very excited because it was my first varsity start,” Robinson said. “I have been working hard at this. I knew I could do it.”
Robinson did an effective job changing speeds, using her change up and curve to shut down the Cardinals.
“I expected a good performance,” Gomez said. “But not a no-hitter. She did her job.”
