This picture might already be, like, so last week. And yet it persists. The arrival of crocuses is almost old news here in the flatlands of Northampton, yet still on the horizon in the Hilltowns. Just last week, with a photo gallery in mind, I spent some time photographing the delicate crystalline forms and improbable negative spaces in one of those huge, dirty and decaying snow mounds that also seem to persist this time of year.
But our typical โzero to 60โ New England winter-to-summer transition must have had a second cup of coffee because, instead, it went from 28 to 86 โ Fahrenheit, that is โ in three days. The first crocuses always make me think of hope, as in โhope springs eternal,โ but spring itself remains only fleeting.
