Matt Levin of Hatfield explains the photo he took in his backyard around lunchtime last Saturday: “This is a rare antler-less mini-moose which is rarely see…. sigh, no, no, it’s a ground hog, a wood chuck, common burrowing rodent…
“It came to be posed this way only after tedious and studious rehearsal during which its agent insisted on including peanuts and iced water for… No, no; who knows why it posed this way, obviously not I. ‘Twas a fortuitous combination of my sitting, camera at hand, by our window whilst the animal in question rooted about under a bird feeder for spilled sunflower seed where our snow-depth measuring yardstick stood attached to the bird feeder shepherd’s crook, and then stood up, scouting for an apparently late arriving UFO, which in fact, never did arrive; or possibly stood up for some other, as yet unrevealed reason before returning to scrounge for seed and scampering off.”
