CUMMINGTON — A 31-year-old man from Cheshire died Monday and three others were hospitalized following a head-on collision between two cars on Route 9 at the Windsor/Cummington line, State Police reported.

Preliminary investigation by Sgt. Dean Clement indicates that a 2000 Acura 32TL crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2013 Toyota Camry head-on. The man killed was a passenger in the Toyota, police said.

He was transported to Berkshire Medical Center and then to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Three others — the female driver of the Toyota and a juvenile passenger and the 23-year old male driver of the Acura — were also transported to Berkshire Medical Center and then to Baystate Medical Center.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Medical Examiner. No charges have been filed at this time.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
