THIS CAUGHT MY EYE …

The Springfield Museums are gearing up for the June opening of their newest addition, “The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss,” a museum that will celebrate the hometown hero born with the more ordinary name of Theodore Geisel. But to get the party rolling, the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts has been exhibiting some related work since last fall.

This weekend will be the last opportunity to see “Cats in Hats,” in which western Massachusetts artists and illustrators, including Diane deGroat, Ruth Sanderson, and Jane Yolen, riff on the one of Dr. Seuss’ most well-known titles to depict cats in various headgear and fantasy settings. More information can be found at springfieldmuseums.org.

AND THIS …

Greenfield is already known for being the site of the long-running Green River Festival, the region’s big summer music festival. But the town is also aiming to make its springtime gambit, the Upper Valley Music Festival (UVMF), a regular thing (the UVMF has also been staged in Turners Falls).

The UVMF, now in its sixth year, presents a range of electric and acoustic music in downtown Greenfield on Saturday, with over 30 musicians and bands (as well as some Irish dancers) doing their thing on five different stages from noon till midnight. The weather report looks good, too — sunny and maybe 80 degrees. Tickets ($20) and additional info can be found at www.uppervalleymusicfest.com.

AND THIS …

This weekend also marks the last chance to see a dual art exhibit featuring the work of a father and son. At Nash Gallery in Easthampton, “Beholding Light: A Father-Son Dialogue” features watercolors by Bob Grant and photos by his son Andy in which the two share their perceptions of nature from a similar point of view, particularly the qualities of light. A closing reception takes place Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. www.nashgalleryart.com
