Printmaking exhibition

Cherry Press Printmaking Workshop members Randy LeSage and Kathy Murray, along with director Corinne Rhodes, will exhibit explorations in contemporary printmaking, including woodcuts, etchings, monotypes, collagraphs, traditional stone and polyester plate lithography and a new technique — non-toxic, Century Plate Lithography — at the Amherst Public Art Commission.

An opening reception is set for Thursday, May 4, 5-8 p.m. at 4 Boltwood Avenue, Amherst, as part of the Amherst Arts Nights Plus Art Walks. The exhibitions continue through June 30.

‘Strength’ at the Hope & Feathers Gallery

Hope & Feathers Framing and Gallery in Amherst will host their 2nd biennial juried photography show’s People’s Choice Award reception Thursday, May 4, at 319 Main Street, Amherst, 5-8 p.m. during Amherst Arts Night Plus.

This year’s theme is “Strength,” asking artists “Inner or physical. Actual or symbolic. What does strength mean to you?” The show itself will run through May 27; votes can be cast for the People’s Choice Award through May 3.

Valley Jazz Voices

Valley Jazz Voices will perform their spring concert on May 4, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the 121 Club at Eastworks, 116 Pleasant Street, Easthampton.

The ensemble includes singers of all ages, hailing from throughout the Pioneer Valley and celebrating the joy of vocal jazz through performances and offering opportunities for community participation.

Under the direction of Jeff Olmsted, Valley Jazz Voices will perform favorite jazz standards accompanied by a trio led by Andy Jaffe on piano, with George Kaye on bass and Claire Arenius on drums.

The concert itself will be from 7 to 8 PM, followed by an open mic for singers to sing one or two songs with the professional jazz trio or with their own musicians. Bring your charts and instruments.

There a $10 requested donation for this performance.

Drinks will be available for purchase at the 121 Club and food is available at an Eastworks restaurant.

Women in History at the Robert Floyd Gallery

The 16th Annual “Women in History” 18 and under juried photo exhibit/contest is currently at the Robert Floyd Gallery, and will run through May 11.

The theme is “Human Emotion” of any woman living anywhere in the world. Young woman photographers from across the Pioneer Valley were invited to engage in artist conversations sharing their stories as well as those of their subjects.

Exhibit receptions are scheduled for Sunday, April 30, and May 7, 1-5 p.m., with student artist conversations set for 3 p.m. each of those days. An awards ceremony is also scheduled for 3 p.m. May 7, coinciding with the artist conversations.

Organ concert

Organist Ian Watson, Artistic Director of Arcadia Players, presents a solo recital at South Congregational Church, Amherst, on Sunday, May 14, 2017, at 4 p.m.

His program features music of J.S. Bach, César Franck, Sir Edward Elgar and Herbert Howells, played on the Casavant organ restored and installed in the sanctuary several years ago. The church is located at 1066 South East St. on the South Amherst Common, with parking behind the building and nearby.

A suggested donation is $20-$40 for adults (on a sliding scale), and $10 for students with ID.
