Stephanie Start threw her second no-hitter on Tuesday during Smith Vocational’s 16-1 five-inning softball win over Commerce in Northampton.
Commerce got one ball in play against Start, who had 11 strikeouts and five walks.
“I have two great pitchers in Sam (Von Haugg) and Stephanie,” Smith Voke coach Nelson Lacey said. “Stephanie came on when Sam was hurt, and she has done great.”
The win qualified the Vikings (10-6, 10-1 Tri County) for the postseason, and moved them closer to a Tri-County League title, which would be the first in school history.
“Nothing would make me happier to see this group of kids make history,” Lacey said.
Avalon Darby had three hits and three RBIs for Smith Voke.
Minnechaug 16, Amherst 0 (5) — The Hurricanes (1-13) could not stop the Falcons’ offense and managed only two hits in a home loss.
Megan Rice and Mikah McNamara singled for Amherst.
Hampshire Regional 10, Chicopee Comp 1 — The Raiders (10-4) got another win in the circle from Danielle McGan.
McGan gave up five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.
Madison Philbrook had two doubles with a run scored, while Brooke Cavanaugh went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Turners Falls 10, Hopkins Academy 1 — Kelsea Cristoforo, Allison Markowski, Maegan Quinlan, Olivia Brighenti and Kelsey Bushey each singled but the Golden Hawks (3-12, 0-11 Franklin) fell at home to the Indians (12-2, 9-1).
Easthampton 7, Palmer 3 — Rachel Robinson gave up three runs and six hits while striking out seven in a home win for the Eagles.
Sierra Raskevitz had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Easthampton (11-3).
Mohawk 9, Frontier Regional 4 — The Warriors scored seven times in the sixth inning to come from behind and beat the Red Hawks in Buckland.
Frontier (4-9, 3-8) got two triples and two runs from Kelsey Jarvis, while Maddie Fifield added a single a double and two RBIs.
South Hadley 12, Holyoke 7 — The Tigers took an 8-0 lead after three inning and never looked back en route to a slugfest win at home.
Mikhaila Edge (five RBIs, three runs) and Nicole Niemiec (three runs, two RBIs) each had four hits for South Hadley (2-11, 1-2 Suburban).
Southwick 6, Smith Academy 3 — The Falcons took a one-run lead in the second inning before being held scoreless for the rest of the game.
Erin Gilrein (2-for-3, single) doubled and scored. Maggie Hession was 2-for-4.
East Longmeadow 14, Belchertown 2 — The Orioles held a 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning before the Spartans scored 14 unanswered runs
Delaney O’Brien (RBI) was 2-for-3, while Samantha Mann (RBI) went 1-for-3.
