Top-seeded Longmeadow eliminated No. 5 Northampton, 4-1, in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Boys Tennis Tournament, Monday.

Freshman Aidan O’Brien capped his strong first year with a victory at first singles for the Blue Devils (10-7).

O’Brien beat Jeffrey Mueller 6-2, 7-5.

“It was a good win for him today,” Hamp coach Brian Miller said. “He lost to him earlier in straight sets.”

Mueller beat O’Brien 6-4, 6-2 on May 18. Three days later Mueller won the Western Massachusetts Individual Tournament championship.

Monday’s win capped O’Brien’s season at 12-4 at first singles.

O’Brien “was just playing really well,” Miller said. “He was patient and when he had a opportunity to go for it he went for winners. He moved him back and forth. He stayed patient and took advantage of every opportunity he got.”

Northampton’s Jake Duggan played well at second singles, but fell 7-6 (7), 6-4 to Ashvin Babu.

At third singles, Longmeadow’s Ethan Purrington beat Galen Winsor 6-3, 6-0.

Adam Katz and Patrick Burns beat Chris Raphael-Reily and Charlie Ryan 6-2, 6-2. Katz and Burns won the individual doubles championship.

Hamp’s Asa Geller and Matt Skrzynski dropped a 6-0, 6-1 second-doubles match to Luke Stathis and Zach Peterson.

Longmeadow (16-2) will meet No. 2 East Longmeadow (14-4) in the finals at West Springfield Wednesday.

Northampton does not have a senior this season.
