BELCHERTOWN – Police are investigating a serious crash in which they said an occupant of one of the vehicles fled the scene late Tuesday night.
Belchertown Police and Ambulance responded to the area of Bay Road near Stebbins Street around 11:20 p.m. for a report of serious motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles.
Police said that when they arrived on the scene, they were told that an occupant of one of the vehicles had fled. Police dogs from Belchertown and Amherst were brought in to help search for the occupant, who was not found.
“That subsequent search of the occupant was unfounded after a lengthy search by both K9 Officers,” Belchertown PD’s Facebook site said.
Police closed Bay Road for approximately four hours while officers conducted a reconstruction of the crash, which remains under investigation.
